COME ON OUT AND PLAY with us today! Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned paddle freak, you’ll find your niche at CANOE KENTUCKY.  We have a unique mix of things to do, places to experience and people to do the many things with who cater to the faint of heart and those who either take life one breath at a time, or grab on and gulp it down!  Our job is only to say ‘NO’ if your health or that of a loved one is at risk beyond that expected in Mother Nature’s great outdoors.

We rent canoes, kayaks and rafts.  We teach about paddling, fishing, camping, caving, climbing and the environment. We build our own canoes, repair those of our customers, shuttle private boats, plan major in/out-of-state/country expeditions and expose you to adventure while not crossing the line defining the limits of your peace of mind.

CANOE KENTUCKY is a family-owned paddlesports adventure business with three distinct subsidiary components.  We are best known for being the largest network of canoe liveries in the Commonwealth through our franchises.  Headquartered in Frankfort on the beautiful, world-renowned and historic Elkhorn Creek, CANOE KENTUCKY’s other outposts include the Upper Cumberland at Barbourville, the bio-diverse Green River near Mammoth Cave National Park, the Lower Cumberland home to Kentucky’s Brown and Rainbow Trout at Burkesville, and others throughout the Bluegrass.

The Kentucky Outdoor Center is the second component corporation, and is the largest retail paddle shop from Chicago to Atlanta. Its showroom is home to most major brands of canoes, kayaks, rafts and paddling gear and accessories. We have a ‘try-before-you-buy’ policy, layaways and daily demos available at no charge.  Through KOC,  instructional clinics and membership in the Kentucky Adventure Team (KAT’s) are offered at low costs for families and individuals.  It is located at the Forks of Elkhorn off US 460 just east of Frankfort.

SEAL (School for Eco-Adventure Learning, Inc.), the third part of the CANOE KENTUCKY family, is a non-profit subsidiary whose mission is eco-heritage adventure, expedition-based environmental education.  Programs are available on land/water-based classrooms for youth groups through seniors.  History and habitat are emphasized in its offerings with a 60 day Lewis & Clark 200th anniversary commemoration on the Ohio River beginning in September.  Summer and after school programs are scheduled near Frankfort’s Elkhorn Corridor at the Peaks Mill location. It also sponsors a multi-sport adventure race each spring.

ELKHORN CREEK, jewel of the world-famous Bluegrass Region, is Kentucky’s most popular paddling stream.  Its varied topography and geology provides a Class II/III whitewater gorge perfect for novice to advanced paddlers of canoes, kayaks or rafts. The bulk of its 99 miles is Class I to I+ making it an interesting experience as well as habitat for the 5th rated small mouth bass stream in the Southeast.  The Gorge section with its exposed 200-foot limestone cliffs provides magnificent scenery for paddlers; and the foliage of canopied Sycamore, Water Maples, Wild Cherry and Oak adds a magical backdrop for Mother Natures finest wares, no matter the season. Downstream the water calms down a bit to allow some of the most family- friendly, outstanding fishing, picnicking and swimming waters the Commonwealth offers. This is a 12 mile section that will instill fond memories of experiences found rarely ‘within the shadow of any state capitol.’

COME ON OUT AND PLAY!   If you’ve got it in you and not afraid to get hooked.
