If you are looking for a river that is ideal for beginning and novice paddlers, then you need to look no further than the Chippewa. The gentle current of the Chippewa allows you to relax and enjoy a float trip in a canoe, kayak or tube.                The Chippewa River is 80 miles long with headwaters in North East Mecosta County flowing past Barryton, Mt. Pleasant and joins the Tittabawassee

River in Midland, Michigan. According to many guidebooks, the best paddling is found in its middle reaches, where the river moves at a soothing pace through pristine countryside.

Chippewa River Outfitters offers a variety of trips suitable for beginners throughout the middle reaches.. We provide parking and transportation to and from the river. The rental of a canoe, kayak or tube includes a Coast Guard approved lifejacket. Our professional staff is always ready to offer basic instruction so even if you have never held a paddle in your hand they will have you looking like seasoned outdoorsmen and women in just a few minutes.                                                             Taking a river trip in a canoe is a romantic way to spend time with someone special. Pack a cooler with your favorite food and beverage and enjoy a picnic on a serene beach along the river.

kayaks

Kayaking is the fastest growing outdoor recreation sport in America. Our kayaks are very stable and easy to paddle.      They are a great way to enjoy and explore the Chippewa River up close and personal.

Of course you cannot get any closer to the river than in a tube. What better way to cool off on a hot summer’s day than to lay back and relax in a tube and let the current carry you down river.

Mix it up with your family and friends and take a combination of canoes, kayaks and tubes. We can help you plan your trip. Float for a few

hours, a day or more. We can also help you plan your trip around many other recreational and cultural activities in our area.                                                              The more adventurous and experienced paddlers enjoy our overnight trip. Riverside camping is available at Deefield County Park.                                                It is true that you never step into the same river twice. The scenery along the Chippewa changes dramatically from spring to fall. Many of our guests return several times during the different seasons and enjoy the variety of birds and wildflowers that come and go with the passing of time..                                                Fishing and paddling seem to go together like cake and ice cream. The canoe or kayak can take you to great fishing locations that are inaccessible by car or foot. The USGS lists the Chippewa River as “a highly productive” stream.                           Your safety and enjoyment are our greatest concern. Though we our open rain or shine, we reserve the right to alter or cancel trips due to extreme weather or water conditions. We will make every effort to give you as much advanced notice as possible. Paddling is an outdoor recreational activity and sometimes adjustments must be made. We encourage groups to plan an alternative date, especially in early spring.                                                                                                                        Whatever your interest or skill level, the beauty and serenity of the Chippewa River will enthrall you and you will want to come back for more.
