Thaxton’s Licking River Canoe Rental

Are you looking for a gentle shallow beginner’s stream -- a scenic waterway where you can enjoy a few hours of peace and quiet with your loved ones? Look no further.

Thaxton’s Licking River Canoe Rental offers a quick way to cool off on any hot humid summer’s day in Kentucky. There’s no skill necessary. All you have to do is completely relax and let the pressures of the “real world” dissolve and let your cares float away.  There’s nothing better than enjoying your favorite beverage and the company of your family and friends as you lazily go with the flow in a multiple chambered tube on the scenic Licking River.

Experts describe the Licking River as an ideal beginner canoeing and kayaking stream. Thaxton’s offers a variety of human powered watercraft including canoes, kayaks, rafts and tubes..

Last year we painted the giant canoe to the left PINK, filled it with breast cancer survivors, and paddled it at Paddlefest 2005 to raise awareness about breast cancer in young active outdoor women. Join us for the Paddle for the Pink in 2006.

Thaxton’s friendly professional staff is always delighted to show beginners the four basic paddling strokes. Learning to canoe and kayak is a lot easier than learning to ski or ride a bike. During the paddling season, the stream’s average depth is between one to three feet.

The Thaxton family invites you to experience the enchanting Licking River Valley from a vantage point experienced by Kentucky’s famous frontiersmen, Daniel Boone and Simon Kenton. Jim and Ann Thaxton started the canoe rental business a quarter century ago on the banks of the South Fork of Licking River near the small village of Morgan, Kentucky. Today they offer a variety of trips on three tributaries of Licking River and the backwaters of Lake Kincaid near Kincaid Lake State Park.

For a unique romantic evening, join Thaxton’s for a guided moonlight float followed by a campfire. Slip into a riverside tent and the comfort of a warm sleeping bag or go first class and enjoy the luxury of one of the cabins at Paddlers’ Inn. Our cabins are air-conditioned. They have hot showers, linen, cable television and access to gas grills and private hot tubs. Best of all, when you rent a cabin you enjoy complementary paddling privileges on site and discounts on all river trips.

The Kentucky Division of Water recognizes sections of the historic Licking River as outstanding resource waters. Sport fishermen claim that the South Fork of Licking River is Kentucky’s best small mouth bass stream.

Thaxton’s Licking River Canoe Rental and Paddlers’ Inn are only 30 miles south of downtown Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. We are less than an hour drive from downtown Lexington, Kentucky. The canoe rental is open April 1 – October 31 from 9 a.m. until one hour before dusk. Cabins are available year round. For more information about paddling and tubing with Thaxton’s visit our web site at www.gopaddling.com and for information on our lodging facilities visit www.paddlersinn.com.
