Discover the Boundary Waters with Voyageur North Outfitters

yellowcanoe

Whether you've never been in the Boundary Waters or visit us every year, you'll get the most out of your canoe experience when we outfit you.

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) stretches for 160 miles along the Minnesota-Ontario border within the Superior National Forest. It's the largest wilderness area east of the Mississippi.

Visitors explore the Boundary Waters via canoe and camp at single-party campsites scattered along the shores of more than one thousand rock-hewn lakes. The wilderness is known around the world for its beauty and great fishing. Motorboats are allowed only on the largest lakes at the border of the wilderness. The loudest sounds you'll hear are the slap of a beaver's tail and the cry of the loon.

Voyageur North Outfitters are in Ely, Minn, one of the two gateways to the Boundary Waters. You'll get on the water fast because many BWCA entry points are only a short drive from our headquarters.

How to Enjoy the Boundary Waters

Two keys to a fulfilling BWCA experience are the right trip plan and the right equipment.

When we outfit you, you'll get the benefit of our 25 years of BWCA route planning experience. We'll ask you questions about your interests and experience. The trek we suggest will be unique to you. If this is your first time in the BWCA, you'll visit some of the closer lakes and cross from one lake to the next over easy portages. It you're a veteran, we'll help you find parts of the BWCA that few people ever reach.

Traveling in a light Kevlar canoe with a couple of modern packs full of delicious light-weight foods and camping gear lets you move faster, see more nature, and catch more fish in less time. No one has ever said that portages are fun but but our high-performance gear can reduce the weight by a quarter over traditional gear.

                           Voyageur North Outfitting Packages

You can get a taste of the Boundary Waters via one of our day trips but you haven't experienced the BWCA until you've relaxed around a campfire, telling stories and listening to the frog chorus. Many guests find that it takes a day or two to adjust to the slower rhythm of the BWCA. A typical trek lasts from three to seven days.

To fit your unique needs, we offer a wide range of outfitting and fishing packages.
